A&E Comedy Night
A&E comedy runs regular comedy nights in Fulham, Blackheath and Clerkenwell in London, showcasing newly emerged and established comedy talent that is sourced from London’s thriving comedy circuit. A&E nights are consistently recommended by Time Out magazine and the shows are tightly and professionally run.
A&E takes shows to festivals and clubs around the county – featuring the best acts to have performed in the three London clubs. Recent triumphs include two nights at the Port Eliot Festival in Cornwall where some of the best emerging acts in the country performed to audiences of around 4-500 on Friday and Saturday night. Acts included Brian Gittins, soon to be seen starring alongside Ricky Gervais in Cemetary Junction under his real name David Earl, and George Ryegold, winner of Time Out’s Rising Star award for 2009 and hotly tipped to take the top comic’s prize at this year’s Edinburgh Festival.
Coming to Portsmouth on the 21st July are:
1. David Whitney
David Whitney is a regular at some of the most prestigious clubs in the UK including the Comedy Store and Jongleurs. David is also a core cast member of the BFTA winning Fonejaker for Chanel 4 and Hatrick Productions.
David’s material is a fine blend of political satire and pure filth, making him the thinking person’s comic so long as that person is thinking of something obscene at the time.
“I call Mr. Whitney ‘The Whit’ and you can’t stop him – you can only hope to contain him” Reginald D Hunter.
“His trajectory is perfect. He squeezes the laughs out of an audience. He’s the squeeze person” Eddie Izzard.
“There’s an efficiency to his jokes on such universal subjects as dating and religion, which often come dunked in a tongue-in-cheek laddishness that lends a playful spirit to the posturing. With bags of confidence and mainstream sensibilities”. Chortle
2. Luke McQueen
“Some of the best jokes that I have heard in years!!!" - Adam Bloom
Luke decided to move to London in January 2006 with his main goal being to become a stand up comedian. Luke has appeared many times on British television including a guest spot on Sky Poker, a hidden camera show for ITV, and as a warm up act for the Gok Won fashion show. He is an Edinburgh festival veteran where he has appeared in the acclaimed Amused Moose’s festival show featuring the best up and coming stand up’s from around the whole of the UK.
3. Jessica Fostekew
“Intensely Funny….Fireball of Fun” – Timeout, 2009
“Jessica Fostekew is a highly charged motormouth of a comedian, working though her brilliant and brutal material at such a pace that you think she'll run out long before the time is up. Thankfully, she doesn't, and we're treated to twenty odd minutes of raucous stand-up.” – Three Weeks, 2009
“Fostekew leaps into focus first, zealously tripping passions and gripes off her tongue with the disorganised energy of a schoolchild…She manages her set with professional ease, adroitly working audience participation to aid a witty sequence of anecdotes.” – The Skinny, 2009
Jessica has been performing improvised comedy and working as a comedy actress since 2005. In January 2008 she hit the UK stand up circuit like a thunderbolt of joy! She is now a regular at the Comedy Store and the Comedy Café in London.
4. Rich Heap
One of the most exciting and original acts to emerge on the London circuit last year Rich Heap will only admit to ‘Telling jokes and wearing tank tops’. A legend with the ladies throughout the entire length and breadth of his own mind Rich Heap has a winning raccoon-caught-in-the-headlamps look on his face and some diamond patterned knitwear on his back. Be one of the first to see this exciting new talent who already has the confidence and assurance of a seasoned pro.
5. Adam Preston
The compere for the evening will be Adam Preston who started A&E Comedy as an excuse to indulge his love of excessive laughing. After nearly three years immersed in the comedy underground, where he has performed over 100 stand up gigs of his own, he has emerged with a white hot list of comics who are now launching into the stratosphere.
